Cold brew coffee offers a smooth and refreshing alternative to traditional hot brews, particularly enjoyable during warmer months. With just a few simple ingredients and minimal equipment, you can create a delicious batch of cold brew coffee at home.
Ingredients
- Coarsely ground coffee beans (medium to dark roast): 1 cup
- Water: 4 cups (filtered for best results)
- Optional: Sweetener (sugar, honey, flavored syrups)
- Optional: Milk or cream for serving Ice cubes
Equipment
- Large glass jar or pitcher with a lid
- Spoon or whisk
- Fine mesh sieve or regular kitchen strainer
Instructions
- Combine Coffee and Water: In your jar or pitcher, add the coarsely ground coffee beans and pour in the water. Stir gently to ensure the coffee grounds are fully saturated.
- Steep: Cover the jar or pitcher with a lid and let it steep at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours. This slow extraction process brings out the coffee's flavors without bitterness.
- Strain: After steeping, use a fine mesh sieve or regular kitchen strainer to separate the coffee grounds from the liquid. Pour the cold brew concentrate into a clean container.
- Serve: Dilute the cold brew concentrate with water or milk to your desired strength. Add ice cubes for a chilled beverage. Sweeten if desired and enjoy!
- Storage: Store any leftover cold brew concentrate in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week. This allows you to enjoy cold brew coffee whenever you like.
